Research
IHEFO has active research activities. Researchers at IHEFO have a wide range of expertise covering epidemiology, health systems, health policy, community health, maternal and child health, and governance. At IHEFO, we focus on two thematic areas:
Health financing and health systems
Health financing is a key requirement for successful health systems, and health policies at the country level must overlap with broader areas of health systems as well as Universal Health Coverage. Researchers at IHEFO have worked with countries around the globe to improve health systems to achieve universal health coverage and reduce out-of-pocket expenditure. The example projects are:
Health Policy Project in Afghanistan, 2013-2015, funded by USAID.
Health Sector Resilience Project in Afghanistan, 2015-2020, funded by USAID
Health financing assessment in Uzbekistan, 2014, funded by UNICEF
Health Economic Outcome Research (HEOR)
Cost-effectiveness analysis/economic evaluation is one of the primary economic tools used in priority setting. Researchers at IHEFO have been conducting cost-effectiveness analysis/economic evaluation studies to facilitate priority setting and achieve efficiency in health systems at different levels. Researchers used a wide range of analytical modelling methods to perform the analysis, including the decision tree model, Markov model, disease compartment models, and dynamic disease transmission model. The example projects are:
Cost-effectiveness analysis of performance-based financing in Zambia, 2015, funded by the World Bank
Cost-effectiveness of dengue vaccination in 10 countries, 2017, funded by Sanofi
